Doldrums

© 2001 Aaron Traffas (BMI)

The wind won’t blow around me anymore
I remember a time when I wished it were so
That which was changing is now constantly static
The redundancy’s no place to go

I always loved the rain
Though I never much cared for the wind
But I think I could live with the gales and the pain
That’d come from learning to love someone again

So as I sit and wait for my sails to fill
I cock my head back and look up above
I ask my friends the stars why in the hell
Am I stuck in the doldrums of love

I remember back when I first set sail
I found the best storm I could find
I battened down my hatches and rehearsed all my lines
I sailed straight for her eye

And she blew me away
I don’t even know where I am
All I can feel for miles and miles
Is the pain that comes from blue skies with no sign of land

So as I sit and wait for my sails to fill
I cock my head back and look up above
I ask my friends the stars why in the hell
Am I stuck in the doldrums of love

The stars are my friends and they don’t know why
I’m stuck in the doldrums of love
